AI → SI: the shift to “super intelligence.”
The word in the room is changing. For years people said “artificial intelligence.” Since late September 2026, the White House and the leaders of the biggest AI labs have been saying “super intelligence,” or SI. This page explains what changed, who drove it, and why I think AI agents running on crypto rails (stablecoins and tokenization) are the long-term lane to watch.

1. The shift: from “AI” to “SI”
AI (artificial intelligence) is software that can learn patterns and produce answers, text, images, or code. Super intelligence (SI) is the idea of AI that matches or goes beyond human ability across many tasks, not just one.
- Sep 22, 2026: President Trump said the U.S. rejects “any attempt to construct a globalist scheme of control for Artificial Intelligence,” adding that it would “hereinafter officially be called ‘Super Intelligence.’” (video, @RapidResponse47)
- Sep 29, 2026: At a White House lunch with AI leaders he said: “We’re going to be renaming it super intelligence, officially renaming it.” (video, @RapidResponse47)
- Same day: the “White House Accord on Super Intelligence” was published. It is a voluntary pledge: each company commits to internal controls, an internal oversight team, an independent outside auditor, and a board committee to oversee frontier AI models. (full text, The American Presidency Project)
In plain words: the label moved from “artificial” to “super.” That signals that leaders now see the technology as a national-scale project, not a gadget.
2. Who is driving it
The accord is signed by President Trump, Sundar Pichai (Google), Dario Amodei (Anthropic), Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), Greg Brockman (OpenAI), Elon Musk (xAI) and Jensen Huang (Nvidia). (source)
On Oct 8, 2026, officials described a new “Super Intelligence Force” whose job is to shape policy for winning the SI race and doing it safely. (@RapidResponse47)
Trump called SI “the biggest thing there is — maybe the biggest thing there’s ever been. It’s much bigger than the Internet.” (video, Sep 29, 2026)
3. Why AI agents + crypto rails is the long-term lane
An AI agent is software that can carry out tasks for you, within limits you set. If agents start buying things and paying for services, they need money that moves at internet speed, 24/7. That is where crypto rails come in.
- Stablecoins have U.S. rules now. The GENIUS Act, signed July 18, 2025, created the first federal framework for payment stablecoins, with 100% reserve backing and monthly public disclosure of reserves. (White House fact sheet)
- Machine payments are already live. Coinbase’s x402 payment standard, built for apps and agents to pay each other online, passed 205 million transactions, per Coinbase Developer Platform. (@CoinbaseDev, Aug 27, 2026)
- Tokenization is the other half. Tokenization records real assets such as Treasuries or funds on a blockchain so they can settle quickly. You can track the size of tokenized real-world assets on rwa.xyz and total stablecoin market cap on CoinGecko.
Credit where it’s due: Jordi Visser. Macro investor Jordi Visser has been making this case on his weekly shows. Here is my short summary of his view, in my own words: AI agents become customers, agents look for the cheapest and fastest way to move money, and that pulls stablecoins and tokenization into the mainstream. He is clear that banks will still make money, and he sees traditional finance doing its homework on tokenization. Watch him directly: “Bitcoin Is the Toll Collector of the AI Economy” (The Pomp Podcast, Oct 10, 2026) and “Climbing the AI Bubble Wall of Worry” (Visser Labs, Oct 11, 2026). X: @jvisserlabs.
I think the SI story and the crypto-rails story merge over the next decade. Banks, fintechs, and blockchains are all building parts of the same plumbing.
4. Words to know
- SI (super intelligence): AI that matches or exceeds human ability across many tasks.
- AI agent: software that takes actions for you, within rules you set.
- Compute: the chips, data centers, and electricity AI needs to run.
- Stablecoin: a token designed to hold a steady value, usually $1, backed by reserves.
- Tokenization: recording a real asset (like a bond or fund share) as a token on a blockchain.
