Learn · Lesson 6
Holding.
Holding means keeping an asset through day-to-day noise instead of reacting to every move. It is often discussed alongside dollar-cost averaging and exit planning. This page explains the term, not whether to do it.
What holding is for
- Noise vs signal Short charts flash all day. Longer views change more slowly.
- Avoiding overtrading Checking price every few minutes often leads to more trades, not better ones.
- Staying with a thesis If nothing about the idea has changed, a random red day is usually just a red day.
What holding is not
Holding without any written rules is not the same as having a process. People who use a written process usually decide their rules in advance, while calm. This page does not tell you what to buy or when to sell.
